Salawat (Arabic:
صَلَوَات) means Durood or Darood which means offering salutation upon the
Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.a.w & Ahl al-Bayt a.s" (also called Tawalla). It is a
special kind of prayer and is mentioned in Quran & Hadith. Moreover it is an
important step towards Spiritual journey.
Salawat is derived from a Quranic verse.
صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا {56}
[Yusufali 33:56] Allah
and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye
blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.
Tawalla (Arabic: تولّى), which means
"Loving the Ahl al-Bayt a.s" is an important part of Salawat as
derived from a Quranic verse.
شَكُورٌ {23}
[Yusufali 42:23] That
is (the Bounty) whereof Allah gives Glad Tidings to His Servants who believe and
do righteous deeds. Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this except the love
of those near of kin." And if any one earns any good, We shall give him an
increase of good in respect thereof: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Ready to
appreciate (service).
